Electric Stimulation
What is Electric Stimulation?
Electrical stimulation is the use of a device to send gentle electrical pulses through the skin to relieve pain and repair muscles. During this treatment, the clinician will secure electrode pads to the skin, through which the electric impulses are delivered, and may elicit involuntary muscle twitches.
What Conditions Does Electric Stimulation Treat?
The primary purpose of e-stim therapy is to strengthen and repair tissue, particularly muscles which have become weakened or atrophied due to an injury. For example, if you have been wearing a sling or an immobilizer due to a shoulder injury or post-surgically, it may cause the muscles in and around that shoulder to weaken. Electric stimulation can also relieve pain from the following:
- Back pain.
- Sciatica.
- Neck pain.
- Shoulder pain.
- Carpal tunnel syndrome.
- Plantar fasciitis.
- Tendinitis.
